As i turned 30 earlier this month, i was recollecting about points in my life that define me. For last couple of weeks , i jotted down the most heroic moments in my life in my personal journal. For this blog, i am shortlisting the list to 3 moments. So here it goes:
- My first stage magic show:
I did my first stage magic show in BUET auditorium in December 2, 2011 . I remember practicing day and night for 2 months straight, before the show. When I went into the stage, the cultural program was at its lowest point. The crowd was very hostile and angry. The organizers were thinking of cutting off my performance for saving time and for wrapping up the program. But, When i got of the stage after that 10 minute performance- everyone was shell-shocked , i remember i got a standing ovation. The crowd was erupting , there was maddening sounds of claps- because no one had seen anything like this live in their life. I remember, i cried out of happiness. Never in my life had i experienced this level of appreciation for my hard-work . Those 10 minutes on stage were the most heroic 10 minutes of my life. That night, changed me as a person. That night gave me courage and confidence, that i still borrow from to this day . - Saving Fulbanu apu from brink of death :
Fulbanu apa, the lady who brought me up, my guardian angel- fell terminally ill on may 12,2019 . Upon admitting in the hospital, we got to know her blood hemoglobin levels had dropped to some abysmal low level(3.2 while 12 is regular) & this caused her a heart failure. This also caused her lungs to store some water and she had immense difficulty breathing.
We needed blood immediately to save her. But the timing was not in our favor, it was ramadan time- no one me or my family know could come before iftar for donating blood.Every minute was a danger minute for her life then . In next 10 hours, i somehow managed 6 donors – and all those bags of blood were transfused to her . After that around 1:00 am doctors said things improved and she wasn’t in the brink of death anymore. On the early morning of 14th may I had the most relieved sleep of my life. Saving fulbanu apa from the brink of death was one of the most heroic moment of my life. - Team BUET reaching octofonals in WUDC-2016:
WUDC(Worlds University Debating Championship) is dubbed as the olympics of debating . In 2016 team BUET comprising of Imran Raja and Mahdi Habib- achieved something extra-ordinary. They reached the octofinals of WUDC held at Thessaloniki , Greece. It can be hard to comprehend for anyone who wasnt involved in debating, to comprehend how hard it is for a engineering university , and a country with english as second language to compete with the native english speakers and end up in the top 8% team. It is equivalent of setting a programming competition of two programmers : one with core i7 computer and the other with MS-DOS computer. It was history in making for the second time for Bangladesh. Imran and mahdi- were 2 of my most favorite juniors from buet debating club. They did some incredible hardwork and dedication for 4 years to achieve this . I am glad that, i could play a small part in their early days. I used to be the brother who used to give them reminder calls for debate-practices and give a tap in the their back when they needed some motivation after a rough day at debate . on january 1, 2016 when the announcement came that buet reached octofinals of wudc- i felt so emotional . It gave a meaning to all the countless hours spent with debating .It wasn`t a ‘heroic’ moment as per say, but it definitely was one of the most fulfilling and proud moment of my life.
