My First Principles

Scroll this
  1. Harm principle: you can do whatever u want, as long as you are not hurting anybody. Never harm anybody with your action/words.
  2. Don`t complain : Never blame others for something you could not do. Never repent over things that u do not have any control over.
  3. Appreciate in public, give feedback in person. True leaders never criticize their team-mates in public, they do it in-person .Appreciation is magic. Never miss an opportunity to appreciate openly.
  4. Action bias: just get stuff done. Don’t spend days & days doing planning & worrying and falling trap to ‘analysis paralysis’. Always have an action bias. You will progress only if you do action, make mistakes and do it again- rather than only planning/worrying.
“If you rest, you rust.” — Helen Hayes.
Even astonishing/glorious seeming tasks are mostly collection of un-glorious repetitive tasks that u do everyday.
  5. Avoid Negativity At All Cost. If you backbite, lie, blame with others- others will do the same to you . Hence always avoid negativity. Only associate yourself with positivity. Karma will give you back more positivity.
  6. Give More Than You Take. Because, it is in giving that we receive.
“The effect you have on others is the most valuable currency there is.” — Jim Carrey

Instead of always focusing on what you want from the world, start thinking about what you have to offer..Helping others is the most important thing you will ever do in your life.
  7. Time is the most valuable asset: Your most valuable asset is not money, it is time. You will die, your time in this world is finite.Be more selective with your time. Don’t squander it like you can always get it back. Sure, you can always earn back the money that you’ve spent, but you can never earn back time.
Once you spend time, it’s lost forever .
  8. Pay great attention to your reactions: Our success do not much depends on what happens to us, but on how we react to what happens to us. We can not change/control what random event happens to us. But we can control what we can do about it/ our reactions to it. So pay great attention to your reactions .
  9. There is only one most important time: the present. Thinking more about past/future stops us from getting the most of the present moment. And this screws up our past/future- as past+future is nothing but collection of present moment at earlier or later times.
  10. Find your purpose: Remember the meaning of life in a person’s life is in 3 things:
    a)Meaningful work
    b)Love
    c)Courage during tough times.
Just remind yourself this, from time to time.
  11. Think in terms of first principles . do not think in terms of analogy.
  12. Be attached with your efforts, but do not be attached with the results. The journey is more important than the destination. Results may or may not reflect your effort- give your best shot anyway and be content with it.
  13. Listen more : Keep your eyes and ears open and your mouth shut. Don’t try to be pretend to be the smartest person in the room. Think more and talk less- do not have an opinion on everything that passes by you. Say less, but say more wisely. Listen more often.
  14. zero fuck : If you are correct by  principles and you are doing your work… then everything else deserves “zero fuck”.No matter what you do, how you do or why you do, you’ll always be judged. It’s a fact. Only thing you have in control is not to give a fuck about it.
  15. Learn to let things/people go that was not meant to be yours. Difficult choices make easy life. Easy choices make difficult life. Learn to make difficult choices, learn to let things go. Not everyone/thing is meant to be forever . Something/Someone better will replace it. Embrace pain but be strong.
  16. The only competition you have is yourself. Don’t obsess over comparing with others, just focus on your stuff, your part, you will do great.
  17. Law of attraction. You eventually become what you focus on.All of your  thoughts will turn into things eventually. If you focus on negative doom and gloom you will remain under that cloud. If you focus on positive thoughts and have goals that you aim to achieve you will find a way to achieve them with massive action. So choose your thoughts wisely.
  18. Learn to embrace failure very gracefully. Every great success is almost always preceded by a series of great failures. It’s more important that you learn from your failures and harness the lessons so you can achieve your next success.
  19. Universal basic Respect to everyone :   respect every single person you come across in daily life, irrespective of gender, caste, religion, nationality, complexion, sexual orientation etc etc. Do not differentiate . Be humble .
  20. People/relationship> object/money. Remember people/relationship should always come first, over money/object.
  21. Invest in physical well-being : If you treat your body like a garbage, it will treat you like a garbage. If you treat your body like a king, it will treat you like a king as well. Your body will be with you for the next 60/70 years, longer than any of your friend. So treat it kindly . Invest in your fitness, nutrition and physical well-being.
  22. Do things that scare you. Going out of your comfort zone helps you grow as a person.
  23. Always ask for feedback. The rate of change is unimportant in the long run, as long as the change is positive. Feedbacks help us keep our changes  positive.
  24. Be grateful for what you have. Gratefulness rewires our brain. In a chase to attain more money/fame we forget what we have. Appreciate what u have now. You might not have them tomorrow.
  25. Give credit to team: A good leader will give credit to the team and protect his team by taking the blame onto his name.
  26. Learn to delegate: A good leader will create new good leaders(not good followers), so that the system can run without him. A good leader will not retain proprietary .
  27. Listening>Speaking: Listening is way more important than speaking in a conversation. Listening establishes trust, and trust is the most important factor people seek in other human beings.
  28. One thing at a time: Concentrate All Your Attention on One Task At A Time. Go all in, for the one major task.
  29. Never judge others too quickly. Always try to put yourself in the shoes of others/always try to see things from other people’s perspective.
  30. Never react to something immediately.Take a step-back, think in a cool head and then respond. Never attack a person , attack his logic.Don’t do the ad hominem.
  31. Focus on personal improvement
“Give me six hours to chop down a tree and I will spend the first four sharpening the axe”- abraham lincoln.
So, always focus on personal improvement – rather than only focusing on the current problem to solve.
